Stress & Relaxation
Stress affects us all at some point in our lives.
These days, so many of us lead busy, hectic lives juggling jobs, children, finances, exercise, hobbies, relationships…trying to find the right balance and enough time to fit everything in.
But what is stress? Everyone’s interpretation can vary. There are the stresses just mentioned but there are also environmental stresses, depression, grief and so on. Why do some people cope well in certain situations whereas others fall apart? In reality, it’s not so much the situation that defines stress but our responses to that situation.
A state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse or demanding circumstances.
The state of being free from tension and anxiety.
Mental or emotional strain.
Stress accounts for a large proportion of sickness and absence in the workplace. It can cause mental, emotional and physical illness leading to accidents, lack of concentration and less productivity. We become tired and lethargic, irritable and angry, our blood pressure increases and we become less able to cope. It’s not surprising therefore that stress and ‘stress management’ is high on the agenda for those businesses concerned about the welfare of their employees and is for ourselves, of significant importance in our lives.
When the body is subjected to ‘stress’ or tension, we automatically go into the ‘fight or flight’ mode. Large amounts of adrenaline and noradrenaline are released into our systems to respond accordingly to the perceived danger. In reality, these hormones don’t get burnt off and remain instead in the body as toxins.
Any form of relaxation will help to reduce the build up of stress; whether it be by socialising, meditation, a long hot bath or time out doing your favourite thing. Of course, it’s not always possible to find the time to do those things however, it’s important we make time, since everything else and everyone else in our life will benefit in the long term.
Hypnosis is in itself a fantastic way to relax. Add to this the therapeutic work which can take place through the use of hypnotherapy, together with NLP techniques where necessary, and stress can become easier to manage and to reduce or prevent in the future.
Once the triggers have been determined, your thoughts and behaviours can be modified to respond to these in a different, more appropriate and beneficial manner. Self-hypnosis can be learnt. In doing so, we can continue to treat ourselves on a daily or weekly basis and reap the benefits of relaxation.
Reiki is a treatment that can allow the body and mind to relax. Clients report an incredible sensation and depth of relaxation that is not only experienced during a session but can continue for days and weeks after. A series of session enhances this benefit.
A combination of hypnotherapy together with reiki is a positive and extremely effective way to deal with stress and promote relaxation and well-being of mind, body and spirit.
